The Moment I Loved Horror

1

I was reminded recently of an article from Glamour magazine that was floating around Twitter. This article basically called all us Horror Lover freaks and that we must’ve had a horrifying childhood to love this genre. Check out the article HERE incase you haven’t seen it.

Anyway, I can’t really tell you the exact moment I feel in love with Horror but I can tell you the important moments that I really came to love it.

The first moment was when I was a little girl. There was a show called WISHBONE that I used to love. It was about a Jack Russell Terrier that would reenact classical literature for kids. I learned about stories like Ivanhoe, Pride & Prejudice, The Odyssey, etc. My favorite story, however, was The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As a kid I loved the story of how a man wanted to separate the animal within but ended up making himself the monster. Don’t we all wish that we could remove the evil within ourselves so we can have peace?

The second moment I really loved Horror was when I was in my tweens. I LOVED watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer! In my house is was the forbidden fruit of television. My mom believed that Buffy was the devil and that watching that show would invite him in. I watched it anyway. What I loved was this badass chick killing monsters, saving the world, and still having a social life. I also loved the makeup of the show! The way the vampire faces changed was awesome for my tween brain. They were creepy looking but in a good way. I also thought that the backstory of the “Fanged Four” was pretty cool. That’s how I love my vampires…completely unapologetic.

The third moment was when THE WALKING DEAD premiered on AMC. My father traveled to Afghanistan for work so we could pay for university. My father and I are really close and I missed him so much. While I was emailing him, I told him about the show and he said to spoil every episode. So every season of THE WALKING DEAD, I would have my laptop out with an email ready. During the commercial breaks I would write everything I just saw and when the episode was over I’d send my message. What we both loved about this show was that it’s not about the zombies, it’s about the survivors. Watching the show you can find a least one character that you can relate to or have your own ideas of how you would survive. My father and I do that all the time. It’s funny how a zombie show was the one thing that my father and I could share while he was so far away.

The fourth moment came to me recently. I watched THE TRAIN TO BUSAN and I was amazed by how well this Korean zombie movie was made. I won’t spoil anything because I’ll write a review for it later. But I will tell you that it had me at the edge of my seat and even made me cry. Not because I was terrified but because I came to love the characters and it hurt to see some of them die. You see, horror movies can bring out a number of emotions if it has the right cast and the right script.

To me the horror genre is more than just boobs, blood, and gore. Although those are entertaining too. If this glamour magazine writer used half her brain, she would know that horror is filled with symbolism and various themes. I think Glamour Magazine needs to stick with the hair and makeup tips with articles of “love your body” right next to the picture of the size zero supermodel.

What was the moment for you guys? When did you love horror? Which moments stuck out to you the most?

“Death Stranding” Adds Our Favorite Cannibal!

0

Fannibals Rejoice!! Our favorite cannibal has been added to the video game we’ve all been waiting for!

Death Stranding rose from the ashes of our burnt dreams when it was announced that Silent Hills wasn’t going to happen after all. After numerous tears were shed, we got a surprise when Hideo Kojima announced the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016. The game will also have Norman Reedus as the main protagonist and director Guillermo del Toro.

Anyway, a new trailer came out with none other than Mads Mikkelsen as the games antagonist. I have no clue what the game is about or who the characters are. All I know is I want to play this game. XBOX gamers be warned! It’s going to be available on Playstation 4.

So who else can’t wait to get their hands on this!

What a Real Mortal Kombat Fatality Would Look Like!

0

Remember on Monday how I said I wish Raze had some Mortal Kombat moves where you had some gruesome fatalities? Well, I found this awesome video about how gory and bloody a real Mortal Kombat Fatality would look like. There were a couple of times where I cringed and thought “what the hell did I just watch?”.

It was actually pretty cool so check it out!

Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has died. :(

0

He passed away last weekend after losing his battle with cancer.

It’s a sad day for gamers everywhere. Nintendo has been such an influential part of my childhood, and it’s sad to know the man responsible for creating so many happy memories is now dead.

“For young players, classic games are brand new. For older players, they bring back memories and make you feel good.” –Iwata

“We do not run from risk. We run to it. We are taking the risk to move beyond the boundaries of the game industry to reach new players and current players.” –Iwata

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.” –Iwata

He was an incredible man and millions of Nintendo fans will miss him.

So I ask you, what was your favorite Nintendo game? Let me know in the comments. Let’s honor Iwata’s passing with cheerful nostalgia.

My favorite Nintendo game was Super Smash Brothers, mostly because I played it so often with my little brother and his friends. Nintendo games always find a way to bring people together. I will always treasure Iwata’s vision on that.

Mr. Bucket has never been more terrifying…

Do you remember Mr. Bucket? The lovable children’s toy from the 80s and 90s? I do. And it scared the shit out of then and still does now. Why does he want to suck on my balls? Why is this perverted toy for kids?

Mr. Bucket just wants to suck on your balls, kids.

My husband is a fan of The Angry Video Game Nerd (or Cinemassacre) on youtube and has been binge-watching James’ stuff for the past two months. I heard him cackling on the sofa and then he showed me the Mr. Bucket vid. If you aren’t familiar with Angry Video Game Nerd or Cinemassacre’s, you should definitely check out more of his videos. They’re all as hilarious as this Mr. Bucket skit. And don’t doubt for one second that youtubers aren’t “real” filmmakers. They work just as hard (if not harder) than the bigger names in the indie film circuit.

God bless Youtubers.

Room Escape Challenge!

0

Imagine you and your friends locked in a room for 60min with a zombie (played by a convincing actor) and to escape without being eaten you must solve the hidden puzzles. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? I’ll be doing this TODAY with my husband and friends from work.

http://roomescapeadventures.com

I’m terrible at haunted houses and mazes. I don’t like people popping out of corners and screaming and clawing at me! I’m also not very good at solving puzzles. I’m certain I will be eaten by a zombie tonight.

Wish me luck! And…be sure to catch my live-reaction afterwards on twitter!

Our Crushed “Silent Hills” Dreams

0

This has to be one of the biggest disappointments of my gamer life. It was announced last year that there was going to be a new addition to the Silent Hill franchise with game designer Hideo Kojima. But that’s not what got my attention. What really had me hopeful about this game was the fact that Guillermo del Toro was taking part in the project. It also didn’t hurt that Norman Reedus was going to be in it too. My favorite horror director and one of my favorite actors in one video game?! Hell yes I wanna play!!

Even Damsel Cannibal was excited about the game. I can’t remember if she and her husband played the “Playable Teaser” or just watched a walkthrough on Youtube, but she loved the gore and the suspense. This is why were friends. We even had plans to film a reaction video for this blog. Sadly that’s one project that’s not going to happen.

From my understanding, Kojima(Metal Gear Solid) was having some sort of spat with the publisher Konami. It makes me sad when a great project like this has to suffer because two parties can’t come to a compromise. Long story short, Kojima is out and Silent Hills is dead and buried…………or is it?

Turns out that fans are hitting Change.org to petition Kojima to continue with the project. The petition has already hit over 18,000 signatures. In the petition, the writer also points out that if money is the issue fans may be more that willing to start a Kickstarter campaign to show their support. I doubt that this is going to help resurrect Silent Hills, but I think the gesture is amazing. Don’t underestimate fan power!

At the bottom of the page I’ll have a link to the petition in case you want to add your support.

Is there anyone here who has played the P.T.? How did you like it? Do you think the petition will help or is it just wishful thinking?

GISHWHES Registration Time!

0

It’s that magical time of year where like-minded nutballs come together showing off creativity, madness, and fun all across the globe. Who presides of this week of hysteria? Actor Misha Collins of the show Supernatural. Yes, he creates the most insane challenges for teams all over the world to do like make a dress out of kale or have a storm trooper clean your pool.

But it’s for a good cause! I promise! Throughout the week teams are also given challenges to do random acts of kindness like last year there was a challenge to become a bone marrow donor!

I participated last year and I had a blast! I met some interesting people from all over the USA and still keep in contact with a couple. I hope we can be on the same team this year. Read about my little adventure HERE

Anyway, I recommend that you all register and be part of breaking world records and bringing awareness to a number of great causes.
