Honestly where has the time gone? Anyways, I know that we Damsels haven’t really been good little girls and kept up with this blog. I’m not gonna bother with some long winded explanation, just know that we’ll be doing our best to stay focused for the rest of the year.
While I’m at it I’d like to wish everyone an amazing Thanksgiving! Remember what you’re thankful for and hold on to it. For those brave souls who will venture out on Black Friday….God Speed!
We’ll be seeing you!
Green Inferno (2014)
Director: Eli Roth
Writer: Eli Roth, Guillermo Amoedo
Starring: Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns
Damsel Bruja and I decided to watch Eli Roth’s much talked about film, Green Inferno (2014) together. It was on Cinemax. It was a Saturday and we were bored just sitting there on our respective couches, so we decided to text each other throughout the movie. The exchange below is the result.
What can I say about this film that hasn’t already been said ad nauseam? Well, it’s moronic. I mean. People are killed by CGI ants and marinated in marijuana before being eaten. If I had to grade this movie, I’d give it a C+. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen but it certainly wasn’t the best. I expected more. The political hullabaloo surrounding the release added to the hype. It was fun viewing, if only because there was NOTHING ELSE on TV.
Was it offensive? I can see why others would think so, but I was too busy laughing at poop and dislodged eyeballs to take this half-baked splatter fest seriously.
There is swearing. There is spoilers. We weren’t being politically correct. You have been warned.
Sorry for the delay! I’ve been having a little too much fun with Instagram. That’s right, The Damsels have dabbled with that gizmo everyone uses to share pictures of their meals with people who don’t give a damn. Anyways, I realized that sometimes a picture can relay a meaning better than words.
So follow our Instagram: dwchorror
Come see what shenanigans we’re up to!
I’ll watch horror if I want to!
So…I was cruising around the interwebs when I found this article about how horror movies can be bad for your health. Yet another thing that I love that can be bad for me…is there anything out there that is fun anymore?
According to The Science Times, people who watch horror movies can have an increase in a blood clotting protein called Factor VIII. Basically, scientists took blood from their test subjects before showing them movies. They were also asked a series of questions like gauging their fears on a scale from 0 to 10. One group watched a documentary while the other watched Insidious. Afterwards, the scientists took another sample of blood and found an increase in Factor VIII with the horror group. However, this increase won’t do anything to damage your health.
Personally, I would have chosen The Conjuring as the movie to show the horror group. Or maybe Earthlings. Granted Earthlings isn’t a horror movie but it’s super graphic.
So……FUCK YOU, SCIENCE! I can still watch as much horror movies as I want!!

So this week we’ve talked about The Devil’s Carnival and how much we enjoyed it. I just ordered it so you all know what I’m going to be watching this weekend.
Anyway, I’d like to talk about this interesting fellow. His story begins as a storyboard artist for numerous films including Into the Wild, Bedazzled, and (my favorite cartoons as a kid) Max Steel and Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles.
But was that enough? Absolutely not! He collaborated Darren Smith, to put on 10 minute operas across LA. The Necro-
Merchant’s Debt was so well liked that they went ahead and made it the cult classic that it is today…Repo! The Genetic Opera. After Repo!, he went back to his illustrator roots and created a 12 part graphic novel series called The Molting which was named Best Horror Comic Series (2010). This series is about a dysfunctional American family in a decaying Anaheim, CA during the ’90s. Yet another thing on my to-do list to check out. Where does he come up with this stuff?! Let’s move on to 2012. Sadly, Repo! didn’t get the sequel we all wanted so what is an artist to do? Make another musical! His next creation was The Devil’s Carnival. We’ve already gone over the film and soundtrack so check those posts out HERE.
His imagination, in my opinion, is fun and outrageous at the same time. He is one of the few people on Earth that I can call a true artist. He composes music, he sings, he’s a illustrator, and he’s not afraid to put his crazy idea on paper. His art just grabs your attention. I can’t describe is any other way. I just think his art is beautiful. I hope you all can check him out and enjoy it!
Here’s a tidbit from the upcoming The Devil’s Carnival: Alleluia!
Just in case you all weren’t aware, We Damsels have our own Twitter account!
Normally I, Damsel Bruja, am the one who likes to fiddle with the Twitter account. The reason is I have my own personal account strictly for personal use. However Damsel Cannibal has another Twitter account where she likes to talk to anyone and everyone in the Indie Horror circuit.
Feel free to follow us and comment on our posts. Or if you just want to talk about some randomness in the Horror genre then by all means send us a message.
I’d also like to take this moment to say that I’ll be using the Damsels with Chainsaws twitter to live tweet during Penny Dreadful. So far this is my favorite show on TV that has to do with horror and I’m hoping there are other Dreadfuls out there who like it too.
Send us a tweet and keep an eye on some live tweet action!

This one is going on my list of favorite Japanese horror movies!
This is about a Japanese actress who just received the role of a lifetime. The film she’ll be starring in is based on a horrific hotel murder where a renown scientist murdered everyone in the hotel as well as his own children. While preparing for the role she experiences visions and other paranormal activity. One of her friends suggest that the study of reincarnation might be the answer to these visions. Is she crazy or was she a victim of this mad scientist’s killing spree?
While I was visiting Damsel Cannibal, I recommended we watch this for the blog. We weren’t disappointed! One thing that I love about Japanese horror is that they don’t rely on CGI or heavy blood and guts. They’re more about the suspense and tricks in the light. Even making something as simple as a doll saying “Together Forever” will make you want to cry in terror. No seriously, there was a doll from one of the victims that kept popping up saying “We’ll stay together forever”. It wasn’t until the end where Damsel Cannibal buried her face in my neck and said, “No! I can’t! Ah!”. I thought the doll was cool but even I was like, “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit! The doll is moving!”
This leads to Damsel Cannibal’s post on Uncanny Valley. She basically told me that we humans freak out over things that look human but we know that aren’t. I guess our instincts tell us not to trust it because we know it’s not real. Anyway check out her post and see if you agree.
I really enjoyed this movie’s story as well. When people think of reincarnation they generally think of being something cool in their past lives like being a knight or a princess. No ever thinks of the possibility that they might be a murder victim or worse a murderer. Shimizu did a brilliant job in turning a romantic idea of previous lives into someone worst nightmare.
I give this movie an A.
Creepy Doll Scene:
This has to be one of the biggest disappointments of my gamer life. It was announced last year that there was going to be a new addition to the Silent Hill franchise with game designer Hideo Kojima. But that’s not what got my attention. What really had me hopeful about this game was the fact that Guillermo del Toro was taking part in the project. It also didn’t hurt that Norman Reedus was going to be in it too. My favorite horror director and one of my favorite actors in one video game?! Hell yes I wanna play!!
Even Damsel Cannibal was excited about the game. I can’t remember if she and her husband played the “Playable Teaser” or just watched a walkthrough on Youtube, but she loved the gore and the suspense. This is why were friends. We even had plans to film a reaction video for this blog. Sadly that’s one project that’s not going to happen.
From my understanding, Kojima(Metal Gear Solid) was having some sort of spat with the publisher Konami. It makes me sad when a great project like this has to suffer because two parties can’t come to a compromise. Long story short, Kojima is out and Silent Hills is dead and buried…………or is it?
Turns out that fans are hitting Change.org to petition Kojima to continue with the project. The petition has already hit over 18,000 signatures. In the petition, the writer also points out that if money is the issue fans may be more that willing to start a Kickstarter campaign to show their support. I doubt that this is going to help resurrect Silent Hills, but I think the gesture is amazing. Don’t underestimate fan power!
At the bottom of the page I’ll have a link to the petition in case you want to add your support.
Is there anyone here who has played the P.T.? How did you like it? Do you think the petition will help or is it just wishful thinking?
We Damsels are going to be on a small break for the next few weeks. Damsel Cannibal is making a big move and it’s gonna be hard writing some amazing posts when you’re busy unpacking and getting settled into a gorgeous house.
