Good Luck Sleeping!!!

Writer/Director: David F. Sandberg

Starring: Lotta Losten

I’m just gonna leave this here. I remember being afraid of the dark when I was a kid. Now I sleep the the door closed and total darkness. I made the mistake of watching this on my phone before going to sleep…..lesson learned. It’s only a couple of minutes but it’s terrifying.

Goodbye, everyone I'll remember you all in therapy

Mr. Bucket has never been more terrifying…

0

Do you remember Mr. Bucket? The lovable children’s toy from the 80s and 90s? I do. And it scared the shit out of then and still does now. Why does he want to suck on my balls? Why is this perverted toy for kids?

Mr. Bucket just wants to suck on your balls, kids.

My husband is a fan of The Angry Video Game Nerd (or Cinemassacre) on youtube and has been binge-watching James’ stuff for the past two months. I heard him cackling on the sofa and then he showed me the Mr. Bucket vid. If you aren’t familiar with Angry Video Game Nerd or Cinemassacre’s, you should definitely check out more of his videos. They’re all as hilarious as this Mr. Bucket skit. And don’t doubt for one second that youtubers aren’t “real” filmmakers. They work just as hard (if not harder) than the bigger names in the indie film circuit.

God bless Youtubers.

“A Tricky Treat” from an Alternate Universe!

Director: Patricia Santos

Writer: Kamal John Iskander

Producer: Grace Santos

So I found this little piece of weirdness in my email. Damsel Cannibal wasn’t the only one who got it but she let me have this one to write about. She’s always looking out for what’s awesome.

Anyway, This short film was featured at the Fantasia International Film Festival and it is epically disgusting. But I say that in a good way. Have you guys ever find those funny pictures on the internet where it says “IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE” and there’s a picture of a tree chopping down a human being? “A Tricky Treat” is kinda like that. Starts out as a typical suburb family preparing for Halloween. Everyone is having an excellent time…except the poor helpless man in the basement. What could they want with this guy for Halloween?

At first this reminded me of a scene from another horror film called “Trick r’ Treat” where a suburb dad and his son carve a man’s head instead of pumpkins for Halloween. I was slightly disappointed thinking, “Oh this isn’t very original.” That is until I saw the ending…I’d love to spoil it for you but I think this is one you just have to watch in order to understand how gross yet awesome it is.

Sometimes mixing gore and humor can be a hit and miss but I thought that it was well done. My emotions changed from totally weirded out to having a giggle fit! Yes…through the blood and gore I was giggling like an insane person. Maybe I’m just a seriously unwell individual but that shit was funny. You’ll especially enjoy the ending.

I’m gonna shut up right now and offer you some websites to check out. I know that the director, writer, and producers are all award winners so I’m excited to dive into their work and see what else I can find the comment on.

Enjoy!

Odessa (Short Film Review)

0
Odessa (2015) won Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Gaspirilla International Film Awards.

Odessa (2015) won Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Gasparilla International Film Awards.

This taut, gripping, short film horrified me more for its relevant, real-word authenticity than its well-written suspense. Odessa (2015) won Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Gasparilla International Film Awards in Tampa. It’s only 13min long but packs a powerful punch. The submission came rather mysteriously, but I’m hopeful for everyone involved that a possible TV series comes from this.

Directed by: Sean Michael Turrell of Toronto Canada (www.SeanMichaelTurrell.com)

Written by: Doug Johnson of New York (www.DoJoWrite.com)

Starring: Ricky Wayne (The Walking Dead), Grace Santos (Dhoom 3),Will Haze (Banshee), and Anthony Escobar (Prison Break).

Trailer:

Odessa (2015) will also be showing at Cannes’ Short Film Corner this May 2015, along with two other of Grace Santos’ productions: A Tricky Treat (directed by Patricia Chica) and Election Night (directed by Tessa Blake).

The story is about a desperate young mother’s harrowing escape across the Texas border after the Texas Secession. There’s not a lot of dialogue, which adds to the film’s suspense and nail-biting claustrophobia. We watch her sneak onto an army base and steal gasoline. We don’t know why she’s doing this, but her leg is bleeding and her eyes are sharp with fear. By the time we see the Texas border fence, the situation becomes clear and we fear even more for the woman as she crawls on her hands and knees as Texas Republic border patrol officers shoot guns at her, killing her companion. In the final minutes of the film, the audience is shown what the perilous border crossing and gasoline was all for. I won’t spoil it for you, but my god, it’s heartbreaking.

Once the credits rolled by I found myself stewing in contemplative silence for several long minutes. I live in Texas. I realized it could happen here. That it does happen here. And I appreciated Odessa’s exquisite speculative slant on border town issues.

I’ll definitely keep my eye out for these filmmakers. If and when the series is greenlit, I’ll be back again with another review. A+++

RIP Horror International Film Festival Adds a New Category

0

Now hear this! Now hear this!

We all know that February is Women in Horror Month but the RIP International Film Festival decided that maybe more should be done for the ladies in horror. So What brilliant idea have they come up with? The RIP International Film Festival is adding a new category to their lists. Ready? It is the Best Female Filmmaker Award!

Festival Founder, L.J. Rivera says,

“I want to contribute to the empowerment of women working in the business for the advancement of the horror genre. Award winning female filmmakers like Maria Olsen, Adriana Polito, Patricia Chica, and Jessica Cameron are making the difference. We want to support the achievements of outstanding filmmakers like these who are creating some of the most exciting and innovative work in the genre, as well as promote undiscovered talent waiting to explode onto the scene,”.

Well I’m super excited! It may not seem like much, but this is a great start to show that The Business is taking women seriously.

Taste the “Fist of Jesus”!!

1

Directed:  Adrián Cardona, David Muñoz

Screenplay: David Muñoz

Starring:  Marc Velasco, Noé Blancafort

Yeah…I’m definitely going to Hell for having the brilliant idea of posting this on Good Friday.

So here’s a lovely short called “Fist of Jesus” where we witness the famous scene where Jesus resurrects Lazarus. Sadly things don’t go as planned when Lazarus comes back as a zombie and devours his loved ones. That creates more zombies and now we’re faced with a small zombie army! So it’s up to Jesus and his trusty sidekick Judas Iscariot to clean up the mess and battle an army of zombies.

This was a glorious piece of hilarity. This whole thing was filmed in 2012 and in Spanish(don’t worry there are subtitles) which I think added to the comedy of the short film. It started out as this super serious/spiritual movie that we’ve seen a million times and then in a split second it changed into the gory goodness of a zombie movie which we’ve also seen a million times. If “Shaun of the Dead” and the Bible had a baby it would be “Fist of Jesus”. It has won it’s fair share of awards.

Those include :

10/11/13“Best Short Film” 8th Abertoir Horror Film Festival of Wales

08/11/13“Audience Award to the Best Action Shortfilm” Germany After Dark 2013

30/10/13“Best International Film” Heavy Hitting HorrorFest (Whistler, Canada)

20/10/13“Best Short Film” Fear Fete Horror Film Festival (Louisiana, USA)

This short film has been such a funtastic thing to behold that they are trying to get the funds to turn it into a feature film titled “Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem”. Honestly, I would love to see this film so I’m going to put the links below so you can see for yourself. Please donate, buy “Fist of Jesus” merchandise, and give your support to make “Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem” a reality. I also have the short film at the bottom so you can see what I mean about this zombie goodness.

Calling for Film Submissions for Druid Underground!!

0

http://www.druidundergroundfilmfestival.com/submit.php

Well looky here! I present to all of you the Druid Underground Film Festival(DUFF). They’ve been around since 2006 and feature all kinds of bizarre art such as music and film. When I say bizarre I mean bizarre! But it’s fun and crazy and, let’s face it, society needs more bizarre things to get rid of the drab and recycled crap that keeps getting pushed in our faces.

But this festival isn’t just about films. They’ve had live musical performances at their shows featuring bands like Rumspringa, they have filmmaker interviews, raffles, door prizes etc. This sounds like an epic adventure of like minded individuals just waiting to happen!

But you better hurry! Deadlines are coming fast! Late Deadline: Apr 10, 2015 and Last Minute Deadline: May 10, 2015

Here’s a word from DUFF’s Founder, Billy Burgess

So I encourage you to submit your art to this film festival and share your crazy genius with the world! I’ll have a list of website for you at the bottom which include Twitter and Facebook. Check it out and let us know if your submitting! I’d like to hear how the festival goes!!

Don’t Underestimate What £10 Can Create!

0

Writer/Producer/Director: Luke Mordue

Starring: Max Mordue, Alex Steedman, Luke Mordue, Anna Skibniewski-Woods.

Remember those post you used to get on Myspace where if you didn’t repost in 5 minutes you’d be murder in the shower at 11:13pm and the last thing you’d see is a unicorn? Well this is like that but it’s actually terrifying. Seriously, the first words out of my mouth were “FUCK ME!”

So here’s how it goes. Dan receives one of these emails about a guy named Charlie coming to kill you at around 9pm if you don’t forward the email. Like any rational human being, skips it. He says good-bye to his pal who is off with his girlfriend. But before Dan’s friend leaves, he sees shadowy figure in the window. Totally doesn’t think anything of it. Poor Dan is left all alone…in a creepy house. He gets that feeling that he’s being watched, but the police can’t help and he can’t escape.

The suspense combined with the movie was intense! If there’s one thing I love about horror movies, it’s the suspense. You don’t see Charlie, you hear Charlie’s whispers, but you never see him. So you’re left with your imagination filling in the blanks. At some point you his creepy smile that makes want to cry for Mama.

Anyway, Check it out and let me know what you think about this £10 budget short!
